Poor Police Contributory Pension Scheme Needs President Tinubu’s Fatherly Intervention

 By Samlincoln O.O

I acknowledge all the good works you are doing to put Nigeria’s ship on an even keel. We wish you Godspeed, sir.

What prompted this piece is the Poor Police Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) for which the rank and file would plead for your fatherly intervention. To start with, as a matter of fact, how on this planet Earth can somebody who served for 35 years, regardless of rank, be paid ₦2 to ₦3 million as gratuity, for God’s and humanity’s sake?
What is the value of even ₦10 million today in Nigeria? That amount of money cannot purchase even a plot of land in some cities.

I have always had sleepless nights over this as a serving member, wondering how an officer can spend all his or her youthful years in service, only to grow older—maybe 58 to 60, depending on entry age—and then be disgraced out of the job by being paid peanuts as gratuity, while their counterparts in the Army, DSS, EFCC, and others are paid good gratuities.

Why does the Nigerian government—and Nigerians—seem to hate the police so passionately?

The Nigeria Police is meant for internal security; meanwhile, some political leaders and appointees at any level cannot function without police protection and backing. The Army, DSS, and EFCC were removed from CPS without a hitch. Why not remove the police as well, as we all know that what is good for the goose is also good for the gander?

I sincerely appeal to the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Federal Republic of Nigeria, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu “Jagaban,” to please assent to the bill from the National Assembly once and for all. The entire Nigeria Police Force personnel, their families, friends, and well-wishers will be eternally grateful.

May God Almighty bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the President of Nigeria, the Nigeria Police Force, and all Nigerians at home and in the diaspora.
