APC Absorbs Plateau Political Structures as Governor Mutfwang Joins Ruling Party

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has recorded what it described as a historic political milestone with the formal reception of Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, into the party—an event the leadership says reflects the APC’s expanding national influence and growing appeal across political divides.

Speaking at the event, the National Chairman of the APC, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, said the Governor’s defection was a powerful affirmation of the party’s philosophy of unity, inclusion, and purposeful governance. According to him, the move represents more than a simple political realignment; it signals a broader collective shift toward peace, stability, and progress in Plateau State.

Professor Yilwatda disclosed that following Governor Mutfwang’s decision, political structures and key actors from other parties in the state have effectively collapsed into the APC, positioning it as the dominant and most credible political platform in Plateau State.

“Today, my joy knows no bounds,” he said. “This convergence reflects the confidence of the people in the APC as a party of unity and action. Plateau State is now firmly on the path of political stability and collective purpose.”

He stressed that the APC’s objective is neither intimidation nor exclusion, but responsible leadership rooted in unity and development. “Our coming together is not driven by sentiment. It is about moving Plateau State in the right direction. Unity brings peace, and peace is the foundation of development. With this renewed unity, peace will permeate every community across Plateau State,” he stated.

The APC Chairman further noted that the party’s enduring strength lies in its ability to unite citizens beyond political, ethnic, and religious lines. “Today, we are united as a people, united as citizens, united in equality, and united in brotherhood. This is the time for unity, peace, progress, and justice in Plateau State,” he said.

Using the APC broom as a symbol of cohesion, Professor Yilwatda explained that it represents the party’s determination to sweep away division, disunity, and political fragmentation, while building a shared future for all Plateau citizens.

At the national level, he highlighted the APC’s steady expansion, noting that the party currently governs 29 states, with prospects for further growth. He attributed this momentum to what he described as the effective and courageous leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, whom he praised as a tested reformer committed to economic stability and national development.

“Before President Tinubu assumed office, nearly 30 states were struggling with unpaid salaries. Today, states are meeting their salary obligations, and there is renewed capacity for infrastructure development across the federation,” he said.

Professor Yilwatda assured Governor Mutfwang of the party’s full backing, expressing confidence that the Governor would secure a second term based on performance, unity, and popular support. “The APC will stand firmly with Governor Caleb Mutfwang. With our collective strength and the support of the people, we are confident that he will be returned to Government House for a second term,” he said.

The statement concluded with a call to remaining political stakeholders and citizens in Plateau State to embrace the APC, which he described as the true platform of opportunity, inclusion, and sustainable development.

“I invite those who are still in the minority to join the majority. Come to the party that offers life, opportunity, and a shared future. Together, we will build a peaceful, united, and prosperous Plateau State.”
